SCOTACS CBT Toolkit (Glasgow)
The CBT Toolkit is an introduction to the theory and practice of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It is a course which has been devised specifically for people who are already working in a therapeutic or support role with clients. It provides participants with the opportunity of learning and applying basic CBT tools, techniques and interventions which can be integrated into existing therapeutic approaches.
The course is delivered over four days, commencing with focus on the self and how Cognitive Behavioural Therapy's philosophy, theory and interventions can enhance participants' understanding of themselves and others.
Topics covered by this course include:
- determining the predisposing, precipitating and perpetuating factors related to anxiety or stress
- working with cognitions - unhelpful thinking styles, their effects and cognitive restructuring
- working with core beliefs - usually the underlying cause of emotional and psychological disturbance in a person’s life
- working with behavioural change by exploring and identifying conditional beliefs and rules for living
- assessment, formulation and treatment planning
- rationale and application of tools, techniques and interventions in skills practice
Completion of the course is achieved on submission and assessment of a case study. The case study should be an example of client work demonstrating an understanding and application of the CBT theory and interventions derived from the course. To comply with course requirements, participants are allowed up to 3 months to submit this case study.
