Course Level: SCQF Level 7

This course is ideal for anyone interested in gaining training skills and/or qualifications. Accredited by SQA this course will provide the learner with all the information, skills and knowledge necessary to become an effective and confident trainer. Students will learn how to plan, design and deliver training sessions which are relevant and informative and which meet the needs of the organisation and the individual. They will learn how to recognise and adapt material and delivery to suit the group dynamic and develop vital problem solving and ability to negotiate conflict.

COSCA recognises this course as a required qualification for COSCA trainer accreditation.

This course consists of the following units:

Evaluating own practice & planning for self development (8 credits)

This unit is concerned with providing the candidates the opportunity to evaluate their self-development needs, devise a personal action plan, and then review and re-evaluate.

Candidates should be able to use the knowledge and skills from the unit to continue the process of self-evaluation and development into the future, in order to aim to achieve their personal life targets, as well as, where appropriate, their career goals and aspirations.

Identify learning needs (8 credits)

This unit is designed to enable candidates to identify learning needs at the organisational and individual levels. Candidates will also learn about and practise how to conduct a ‘training needs’ interview.

Planning design and delivery of learning (16 credits)

This unit is designed to offer candidates the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in relation to planning training sessions and designing the materials and learning resources to support the sessions. It also offers actual practice in delivering training sessions and reviewing the training sessions once delivered.

Evaluating learning (8 credits)

This unit is designed to equip candidates with the skills and knowledge necessary to undertake an evaluation of a training programme. It will provide them with the underpinning knowledge necessary for devising evaluation materials, gathering data and making recommendations for improvements to the programme.

Competence based assessment (8 credits)

This unit is designed to enable candidates to develop the skills and knowledge required to devise and implement competence based assessments.

Cost of course: £495 (£450 for Centre of Therapy members) Funding is available through the SAAS Part Time Fee Grant.
