Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a search for solution: a difference that makes a difference.  The SFBT approach does not focus on the past, but instead, focuses on the present and future.  SFBT is short term, goal orientated, with the focus on client strengths and life without the problem. SFBT works toward changing a client’s view of the world with the therapist acknowledging that the client is always the expert, responsible for themselves with coping strategies already in place.  

SFBT can focus the client on where they would like to go to, the therapist’s task is to find the quickest way there.  The focus of the work in SFBT is to build on existing resources, skills and abilities. Noticing the smallest of changes and how you achieved change in the past could present the solution to your current problems.  SFBT is useful for moving clients from immobility to movement using a step by step process which is tried and tested in a series of one to one sessions.
